Empty Legs, also known as Dead head are flights that the operator has to perform irrespective of weather a passenger is there or not. These flights are often available at a one way price or many a times even at a lower price. One way price means that you will be charged only for the portion of the journey that you undertake and not the return leg.

These legs occur because of many reasons

• Positioning. 

Positioning flights are those flights that have to be performed for the upcoming next flight or series of flights. For example if the aircraft is at Miami and some other customer has booked the flight from Dallas to Boise then the aircraft needs to position to Dallas from Miami even if there are no passengers. Therefore, the operator might offer it at a one way price. 

• Must Move

There are many reasons for which the aircraft needs to move from an airport to another. It could be maintainance or regulatory requirements. In such situations also a one way pricing may be available.
